I got 2 days to hunt turkeys before going to work and alas
we finally got rain...And it rained all day...I was stuck in a
blind both days and didnt see a thing...I had some birds up
a hill but I could never get them to come in...
Time to pack!!

I went down back to shoot the new Deer Season bullets I
got from Bass Pro...These things shot dead on! The only stray
I know I jerk it as soon as I shot...Ive never shot a pattern that
good before...
Cant wait for deer season now...

Today I had the mini-X to get some debris clean up done...
This is looking uop the old well road that hadnt bee cleared in
a while...The deer and turkey now walk right down it...
Tims firewood pile...
Tims oak tree was pretty heavy...This is the tree he planted as an acorn about 50
years ago...
Some of the piles I leveled out so they were flattened down for
dirt to go on top of them...

This was the last time to see the girls before going back to work...Reading

Becky showed me Niecys dress for her recital next month...
Prior to going I had 2 large toms come to the back of the house...
These were the 1st toms Ive seen...

April came up for another visit to shoot the pistol
again...We had a nice lunch at the Main Street Ice
Cream Parlor...
Before she got there I cut down the 2 apple trees in the bowl to get
ready for more debris from the hillside that Donnie is going to push
down...
The one was pretty rotten and I was amazed how well they came back after
trimming them up 2 springs ago...They average 3 feet/year in new growth!

Tim came up today to help me get ready to close the house up...Also
to get an idea on what projects he can do for me while Im gone...
He got to try out my incline table...
Then we cleaned out the upper part of the garage and found this...Not sure what it is
but we think its a bird cage...

After attending training down in FL I did a quick stopover in Atlanta
to see my cousins...2 I had not seen in about 10 years and 1 I had never
met...And she now has a husband and a 2 year old daughter...
It was great seeing them all even for just a few hours but we did miss
Deirdre who was on her way back to California from a trip to Amsterdam
with her mom...
Deanna, me, Marcus, Darlene and Kennedy...
Kennedy...
I had to go to some training in Va Beach the following week and of course it gave me a
great excuse to see my godson and his family...
We played some cornhole and had a few meals together...Joe has
grown up so much...

Jake and April came out for a visit today...It was the first
time they had seen what I have been doing this trip home...
Jake is on his way back to LI for the summer for another
tour as Sous Chef...
They were quite surprised how much Id done and how different
the back yard looks without the hillside there...
After a tour we went down back and shot my pistol...It was
the first time either of them had ever shot one...

I had a couple yearlings come down to the Trophy Rock
and they were quite playful with the turkey that was there
too...

The next day we went out for a full day of touring the Proving Ground...
Its named that due to the practices he has implemented to improve his
wildlife habitat over the years...He says if you can do it here, you can
do it anywheres...After seeing the property Id almost believe he s right...
It was a chilly morning and we started out learning about planting fruit trees...
In the background we could hear the turkeys gobbling...
This is what his gound looks like...Very rocky and the turnips and radishes
were growing right ontop of the ground...

Hard to tell but we dropped down 400+ feet down the hillside...
And old cabin on the property...
Next stop had us learning about soybeans...
Utility cage...
We also learned about no till drilling...

Next was a discussion about using electric fencing to keep the deer out of the food
to save some for winter...
We also had a talk about perscribed fires but it was a little breezy so didnt
get to see a demo...
Finally we had a demo about the 3 types of broadheads and what works best...
It really comes down to preference...
